The pure harmonic sounds created when Crystal bowls are struck or rubbed with a beater are unique. On this CD they have been carefully recorded to create a musical journey which takes its inspiration from the properties of various Gem Stones associated with the 7 Chakras. (The word chakra is Sanskrit for “wheel” or “disc.”) Each track represents one of the Chakras, with its own distinct character, frequency and colour which relates to a unique aspect of our being.

released October 31, 2016

The bowls were recorded at 88.2kHz, 24-bit resolution via a Sony C37a valve mic from 1956 and a Sony C38 FET mic from the 70’s, with a mid-sides pair consisting of a Mojave MA200 valve mic and an AKG C414ES as ambients. Occasionally for the very deep notes, an RCA 44BX ribbon mic was added to capture the extra warmth. All mics were recorded through a combination of Neve and Raindirk Pre-amps with a little subtle tube compression from an Anthony Demaria Labs CL/1500 stereo valve compressor. All mic sources have been perfectly phase and time aligned to ensure optimum preservation of transients and tone with mastering making use of a Pultec eq and Fairchild 670 compressor. All equipment and every stage of production has been optimised for quality and authenticity.
Many thanks to Sarah Evans, (Sound healing practitioner) for the use of the Crystal bowls on this album.
